The friendly relation between India and Japan is historically and spiritually rooted. The two countries share an undisputed bilateral relation. Over the years, the two countries have built and strengthened the values and created a partnership based on both principle and pragmatism. Today, India is the largest democracy in Asia and Japan, the most prosperous.

Both Prime Ministers Sri. Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during their visits to Japan and India in the year 2016,17 have signed MoUs in the areas of Science and Technology, Japanese Language Learning, Cultural exchange, Civil Aviation, Manufacturing Skill Development Program, Agriculture, sports and many other fields.

India and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on a basic partnership framework for operation of the ‘specified skilled worker’ (SSW) system under which the Japanese government accepts foreign nationals who have a certain level of expertise and skill. Economic relations between India and Japan have vast potential for growth, complementing each other for the needs that exist between the two Asian economies. Japan's interest in India is increasing due to India's large and growing market and its resources, especially the human resources.

The presence of Japanese companies in India has been increasing steadily. The number of Japanese companies in Bangalore is 529 and 1455 in India. Bengaluru now has a direct flight from Bengaluru to Tokyo by Japan Airlines.

The interest and need among the students for Japanese language has seen a good rise in the recent years. The number of applicants for Japanese language –JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) in Bangalore in the year 2019 was 2350.
